Monumen of Trajectory

Living Gallery: *Suklu pameran*

Suklu is the second artist to be part of the year-long Living Gallery art project. Komaneka gallery is usually a space to showcase finished artworks. Instead of only displaying final work, the Living Gallery art project is where the process of the artwork also takes place. It involves the artist literally staying in the property for at least 24 hours as a resident of the resort. During these times the process of creating art will begin, just like how they would in their homes or in the studio. Suklu also invites participants outside to be part of his creative process in the form of interactive workshops that take place over the course of 1 month.

This is a conversation between Koman, co-founder of Komaneka and Suklu.

Suklu: For this upcoming exhibition I will present a trajectory of art pieces I have created from past projects, such as installations in Santrian, Arma, and my workshops that were done in various places in the world, like Korea and Singapore.

I was touched when Koman explained to me that the gallery would be my studio, cozy like a home, where the heart is; and the resort acts as the body accommodating the heart. I’m planning to have workshops and showcases of artwork, in an environment where the audience can interact and collaborate with one another and find new ideas together, along with music. The exhibition will not be confined to only the gallery, as Koman suggests the artwork can also be displayed in the hotel rooms.

Koman: Yes this follows and mirrors Balinese philosophy of homes having anatomy, like a head, a body and feet.

Suklu: Koman created the place so inspirational wherever you look from the garden to the architecture. I can connect my idea into a piece of art. Being confined in the walls of the gallery the entire time may not be enough.

Koman: Komaneka Resorts serve as a vessel to express Suklu’s ideas.
