The same vibrant energy of
warmth is reflected in his paintings. The colors have shades
of red and brown: passionate and spirited reds, calming and
warm browns. I imagine a scarlet twilight sun tumbling down
to the horizon. Then I see the dark silhouette of a fisherman
standing on top of a floating boat that sways quietly because
of the strong sea breeze. Meanwhile, boys are running on
the wet, black sand. I see footsteps on the sand and dirt
stuck between their toes, darkened skin burned by the sun.
Red, orange, yellow, white, maroon, brown, copper, ochre
and black; even if there were accents of blue and green in
his paintings, consider them as cool coincidences. --Excerpt
from "On A Family Guy", an introduction for the exhibition
catalog.
I release
my feelings, enjoy my time in the process, and use brush-strokes
with all of the technical skills that I have. That’s
it! My paintings this time are mostly in dark colors, even
though I always paint under neon lighting. There are times
when my imagination sees this world as dark and gloomy. --Excerpt
from the artist's statement.
